In late-1980s Mexico, eight-year-old Roberta grows up in a household of seven women struggling to save their home from mounting debt. Witnessing their sacrifices, conflicts and resilience, she gradually discovers a new understanding of family, womanhood and her own identity.

Mayra Hermosillo is a Mexican actress, screenwriter and director from Torreón. She gained recognition through the series “Narcos: Mexico”, then co-wrote and co-directed the short film “En la piel de Lucía”, followed by “Me quedo aquí”, which screened at several international festivals. “Vanilla”, her debut feature film, premiered at Giornate degli Autori during the Venice International Film Festival.
