Valérie Massadian

Director

France

Valerie Massadian is a self-taught visual artist and filmmaker. After several years of collaboration with photographer Nan Goldin and working as an artistic director with various filmmakers, she directed her first feature film, "Nana" (2011), which won the Opera Prima Award at the Locarno Film Festival. Her second feature, "Milla", along with her short films, has been selected and awarded at numerous international festivals such as Jeonju, Locarno, Valdivia, FICUNAM, DocLisboa, among others. Her work focuses on female characters—their animality, their relationship to the world and to nature. Built over time with each protagonist, blending tale and realism, poetics and politics, her films play with the boundaries of fiction to redraw their own.
